How to Set Up Your MP3 Encoder

MP3 is one of the oldest streaming formats, which means it's compatible with most players on most software, sound devices, and browsers. Its low-bitrate sound quality isn't as good as, say, AAC format, but MP3 is very popular.
Before you start, you must retrieve server details from your DjExtreme account. For the sake of example, let's say you've signed up for a DjExtreme hosting account through SpacialNet.

•After you have been given your info from your encoder it is highly recommended that you keep this info in a text  file of some sort. You might even want to create a  document that contains all your DJ info including your Player for your profile.

•When you set up your Sam keep this page open as you will need the information within it.

To set up your MP3 encoder, open SAM Broadcaster and follow these steps:

•Click on "Desktop B" in the toolbar.
•In the "Encoders" window, click the plus sign ("+") to add a new encoder.
•Select "MP3 (normal)."
•Click "OK."
The MP3 (Normal) encoder window will then appear.

In the "Converter" tab:

•Set the bitrate of the encoder. Now there's a few things to remember here. Max bitrate here is only the max possible, If you set the encoder for 128kb but are playing mp3's that were encoded at 64kb you're only going to bet 64kb sound. Likewise if you play songs that were encoded off a Special "Golden Disk" from like high fidelity labs at 320kb you're still only going to get 128kb sound. Also the higher kb rate u broadcast at will give better potential sound but it also causes you to use more bandwidth. If you have a slower DSL connection and try to run RLC, Sam and Skype or something you may end up with issues.

When you assign your settings please be mindful of your max bitrate you signed up for on my server. for best results I suggest the 128kb streams but if you feel you don't need that make sure you remember this when setting up your stream.

.Ok I've rambled enough. Once you open your mp3 normal encoder you will need to set the bitrate. The box that pops up as you have created the normal mp3 stream says converter. Select fast re-sampling ( Should be the default. Then under server details enter the IP assigned to you for localhost. Then for the password and the port number just use the info assigned to you. There is lots of other places for other options but that can be worked on later. Right now we just want to get your stream going.

Ok now click OK. So now that we have a encoder set up we also need to set up a static relay. Remember you still should be in Deck B of the SAM. If you don't see a box called static relays go to the toolbar at the top of the SAM and select window and then click on static relay.  Once use the info assigned to you. There is lots of other places for other options but that can be worked on later. Right now we just want to get your stream going.

Then right click on the  encoder again and select start. Then right click on the Static relay and select force update... You should be streaming.
